How Is the GEO Score Calculated?
The GEO score is a 0–100 metric calculated by combining two components — the "performance band" (up to 80 points) and the "foundation band" (up to 20 points) — using a proprietary algorithm. The same formula applies across all plans (Free, Standard, and Pro). What differs between plans is the number of elements displayed and the number of AI platforms monitored.
Performance Band (Up to 80 Points)
This reflects how AI actually treats your brand, measured monthly as real observed data. It's composed of four indicators:
- Mention: Whether your brand is mentioned in responses to monitored queries
- Recommendation: Whether AI presents your brand as a recommendation or candidate
- Ranking: How early your brand appears when multiple candidates are listed
- Sentiment: Whether mentions of your brand are positive, neutral, or negative
The performance band can shift relatively quickly in response to improvement strategies. Monthly score trends let you track the impact of what you've implemented.
Foundation Band (Up to 20 Points)
This evaluates how well your site is prepared for GEO — a fixed additive score that anyone can improve by taking the right steps.
- Schema (structured data) implementation
- Presence of FAQ, comparison, pricing, and case study content
- llms.txt setup and completeness
- Brand information and author profile completeness
The foundation band builds up gradually through site improvements. It moves more slowly than the performance band, but it's an area where consistent effort reliably raises the score.
How to Read Your Score
Beyond the overall score, the most important signal is which queries result in "not mentioned" responses.
- Not mentioned: Your brand doesn't appear for that query — the biggest opportunity for growth and the clearest next action.
- Misrecognized: Your brand is mentioned, but in the wrong industry or context — a sign of insufficient information setup, flagged as a warning requiring attention.
- Matched: Your brand is mentioned correctly in the right industry and context.
