The GEO Score is Genview's proprietary metric that quantifies how well five major AI platforms — ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Perplexity, and Grok — recognize and recommend your brand. Genview measures three independent scores, each tracking a different dimension of your AI presence.
Three Scores Genview Measures
Each of the three scores tracks something different. Because the measurement methods differ, the numbers will not match across scores. Each independently reflects a different aspect of where you stand.
Absolute Score
Overall Score
How close you are to your ideal right now (0–100). A composite of AI performance (results) and site GEO readiness (foundation).
Track your absolute current position
Fairness Score
Gap vs. Competitors
Where you stand relative to competitors. A relative metric that scores all brands equally using neutral queries without brand names.
Understand your position within your industry
Query-Level Score
Strength by Query
Your citation track record on the questions real customers ask. Tracks how your brand appears in the monitoring queries you set, broken down by funnel stage.
Identify weak queries and verify strategy impact
* The three metrics use different measurement methods and scores will not match. Each independently reflects your current position.
How the Overall Score Is Calculated
Of the three scores, the Overall Score is calculated by combining two independent axes: "Results," which reflects how well AI is actually recognizing and citing your brand, and "Foundation," which reflects how well your site is set up for AI to recognize you correctly.
Results
Up to 80 pts
Measures whether AI is actually recognizing and citing your brand. Factors include appearance rate on target queries, sentiment, contextual accuracy, and position relative to competitors.
Foundation
Up to 20 pts
Measures how well your site is prepared for AI to recognize you correctly. Factors include llms.txt, structured data, content structure, and how clearly your entity is defined.
Results (up to 80) + Foundation (up to 20) = Overall Score (0–100)
The Overall Score uses the same formula across all plans. The score itself does not change based on plan.
Five AI Platforms and Their Measurement Characteristics
The five AI platforms Genview measures each have different information sources and generation logic. Effective GEO strategy means understanding these differences and prioritizing accordingly.
Information source
GEO strategy focus
ChatGPT
References trained data plus web search. With web search enabled, also retrieves real-time information
Site structure affects recognition speed. Content formats like FAQs and BLUF improve extractability
Gemini
Tightly integrated with Google Search index, aligning naturally with Google's evaluation criteria
Volume of web mentions and references from external sites tends to directly impact recognition
Claude
Heavily dependent on trained data; web search integration is limited by default
Newer services tend to take longer to be recognized. Consistent entity definition across owned and external media is key
Perplexity
Generates responses primarily from real-time web search. Comparison and ranking formats are common
Third-party mentions, reviews, and inclusion in comparison articles tend to directly influence ranking
Grok
Primarily references real-time posts on X (formerly Twitter) as its main information source
Social mentions, hashtags, and posting frequency have a stronger influence here than with other AI platforms
* Each AI platform's specifications are subject to change with updates. Genview periodically reviews its measurement logic to reflect these changes.
Who This Is For
Companies that want to start GEO but don't know where to begin
Measuring all three scores immediately clarifies how AI currently describes your brand, where you stand against competitors, and which queries need attention — giving you a clear starting point for prioritization.
B2B SaaS and service businesses that want to be recommended by AI more than competitors
The fairness score gives you a quantitative view of where you stand relative to competitors in AI. You can act on improving visibility in comparison queries with data to back every decision.
Companies that want to run GEO improvement in-house without specialized expertise
Monthly improvement strategies are auto-generated with difficulty ratings, ready-to-use code, and copy. No GEO or SEO expertise required — just follow the scores and keep improving.
